Our Works

We , educate, equip, mobilize, and empower our target people in addressing the core issues affecting their lives. We work in regions where there is a felt need for changing mind-set and behaviour to improve life of the poor, the tribal and the marginalized.

Though we as MUP initially started work in Dhenkanal district focusing Kamakhyanagar, Kankadahad and Gondia Block intervening education and health for all, over the years our work spread across other regions of the state of Odisha covering different stakeholders targeting issues affecting their life and living condition. Presently we operate in Dhenkanal district. In our efforts to bring both social and economic empowerment of the almost vulnerable population, we prioritize education and health components.

SECONDARY HOSTEL FOR SCS

SUPPORT

With the support of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, New Delhi, the program Secondary Hostel for SCs is managed by the organisation MUP at Jiridamali in Kamakhyanagar sub-division of Dhenkanal district for Scheduled Caste secondary students from 2001-02. The main aim of the program is to provide support to continue the education of SC student and bring them to the mainstream education process. There were 100 SC students from class IX to X are residing in the hostel. Steps has been taken for their admission in different classes in the nearby high schools and got education facility with free of cost. The organization has also provided free Fooding, lodging, teaching, learning materials, uniform dresses and health facilities to the students and created a better study environment at the hostel for benefit of the SC students. Necessary part time teaching staff and hostel staff has been appointed and provided better teaching and residential facility to the students. The hostel is functioning as per the guidelines of the scheme of the Ministry for educational development of the SC students.

WOMEN AWARENESS PROGRAMME

With the aim to empower the women folk and to bring them in the mainstream social development process for their active participation and to raise their status, awareness programmes in 16 locations of Kankadahad & Gondia Blocks has been conducted in the month of August-December-2019. Total 328 women’s from different villages participated in these camps. Resource persons from various fields including Health, Education, Banking, Agriculture departments represented and provided valuable talks for the development of the women in the area. During the programme, the block level women co-ordination committee which was formed earlier has been strengthened to enable them to participate in the decision making process to settle different problem that local women faced. Quarterly action plan of the committee has been developed to carry out women related programme.

Besides, plan has also been prepared to provide financial support to the BPL women’s for taking income generation activity to bring them mainstream development process.

STRENGTHENING WOMEN ORGANISATIONS (SHGs)

As women organisation’s played a vital role in these days, MUP has formed another 31 SHGs this year totaling 83 SHGs formed so far in Gondia and Kankadahad block of Dhenkanal district with the aim to to raise the socio-economic status of rural women. Necessary capacity building training to SHG leaders have been conducted during the reporting period. The SHG are functioning very well. It is aimed that the SHG would enable the members to start their own earning sources through the help of the groups. Each SHG members are contributing money fixed by the members in each month and the amount has been utilized like thrift and credit. During the reporting year necessary steps have been initiated by MUP to linkage the SHGs with different financial institutions to provide loan to start income generation activities by the members of the SHG. Total 18 SHGs in Gondia and Kankadahad block has been linkaged with the SBI, Joranda and SBI Kamakshyanagar branch and provided loan to start income generating activities like, Rice Business, Papad Making, Goattery and Agarbati making.

NATIONAL CHILD LABOUR PROGRAM

Mahila Unnayan Pathagar (MUP) has been started child labour education and rehabilitation program in Kankadahad Block of Dhenkanal District since October 2007 with the financial support from District Administration and District Labour Office, Dhenkanal. Since then the program is continuing with the aim to provide basic education with vocational training to the identified child labours those who are working in hazardous fields like Stone crossers, hazardous industries, hotels, piggery etc, Two numbers of child labour schools have been functioning at Tileibereni in Batagaon G.P. and Daratota in Raibol G.P. of Kankadahad Block with necessary provision of staffs to these schools along with infrastructure facilities. The organization has also provided nutritious mid day meal, free teaching learning materials, health facility to the student for their better study at the centre.

NATIONAL ENVIRONMENT AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

FOREST PROTECTION

The organisation MUP has conducted a month long environment awareness campaign in Kankadahad block of Dhenkanal district involving the school student, youth club members and SHG members. Under the program, the activities like, clearing the road sides and planting quick raising trees were given important. Essay and debate competitions are conducted regularly among the school student in different locations to create awareness on environment. The local youth were motivated to plant trees on the roadsides. This year the MUP with the help of forest department, provided plants free of cost to 10 villages. At the village level, plantation committee has been formed by MUP for gearing up the activities. Necessary trainings like Nursery raising, Forest protection, Watch and ward etc has been conducted for the members of forest protection committee during the reporting year.

This year, the Mahila Unnayan Pathagar (MUP) has planted 2050 sapplings in different villages. Besides, village level forest protection committees have been formed to protect the trees from illegal cutting.

PUBLIC LIBRARY SERVICE & PRESERVATION OF MANUSCRIPTS

IMPORTANCE FOR SOCIETY

The organisation MUP has continued the public library service established earlier in village Ambapada in Dhenkanal district. With the aim to enhance the out look and social consciousness among the rural people and provide recreational facilities with reading materials. Since the last 20 years, the library contains a significant stock of educative books, journals periodicals and newspapers with a reading room. It is open to all in every week except Sunday and a librarian has been appointed to take care of the library.

Besides, the library has a good stock of palm-leaf manuscripts. Some are translated and some are original which are preserved since its inception. It is found that some manuscripts on palm leaf are getting lost day to day at different places, which are very significant with social importance for the society.

ROAD SAFETY PROGRAMME

ROAD SAFETY

Since the road accidents rapidly growth causing casualty and death due to the road users particularly drivers are found not following the traffic rules causing fatal accidents. Competition among passengers and goods vehicles also add the fuel to the fire. To create awareness and sensitize the road users and drivers MUP has conducted road safety awareness programme on dated 28/10/2019 and 11/12/2019 in two locations of Kamakshyanagar sub division. Awareness on road safety was created through public meeting in different location starting from Kamakshyanagar to Kankadahad.

Besides, other events like, essay competition has been conducted with the student of different high schools on traffic rules, traffic symbols, role and responsibility of citizens on the use of road.

With the cooperation and support of District Water and Sanitation Mission, Dhenkanal MUP actively involved in the campaign with the aim to aware the general public and provide lost cost sanitary latrines to the BPL families. The organisation has undertaken the activity in Karamul GP of Gondia block of Dhenkanal district. During this year, MUP has organized 5 awareness camps in 5 different places i.e. Sarangi, Bainsia, Khankar, Majhipal and Mandar in Gondia Block of Dhenkanal district with support from District Water & Sanitation Mission, Dhenkanal. Total 198 participants were attended the awareness camp deliver their valuable talks about use latrine and kept clean the environment. Block Development Officer, Junior Engineer (RWSS) also attend the meeting. Sarapanches, Samiti Members and local grassroot level workers like AWWs and ASHAs have also attended the meeting.
